Trattoria Omero in Florence is characterized by a rustic yet elegant environment, offering two spacious dining rooms of each 70 seats and a magnificent terrace with another 45 seats during summertime. Both dining rooms and terrace face splendid views of the surrounding hills.
The menu offers simple but tasty dishes prepared according to the best of Tuscan traditions which include freshly homemade pasta, stuffed pasta, whole wheat pasta, such as “penne strascicate”, “pappardelle” pasta in hare sauce, grilled meat, fried dishes, the traditional “bistecca alla fiorentina” steak and “pollo schiacciato” chicken, venison specialities, home made desserts and much more.
A bit of history
The Trattoria Omero originally opened as a bakery in the end of the 19th century. In 1943 it was purchased by Omero Attucci who first turned it into a grocery store and then decided to expand the business by adding a couple of tables serving hot plates such as the “penne strascicate”, “spaghetti al pomodoro” and fried chicken. Given the huge success of the simple and genuine plates, Omero soon became a very popular trattoria appreciated and frequented by mainly Florentines but also by many foreign tourists, in particular Americans.
Since January 1979 the restaurant is run by Rosanna Soldani and Roberto Viviani, and from 1992 Rosanna’s cousin Charles Soldani also joined the team.
During all these years, many Italian and foreign celebrities in politics and show business
have visited Trattoria Omero. Among these are Marcello Mastroianni, Alberto Sordi, Renzo Montagnani, Bernardo Bertolucci, Giorgio Albertazzi, Riccardo Muti, Mario Soldati, Giovanni Spadolini, Sandro Pertini and finally Vittorio Cecchi Gori, who was always accompanied by more or less known actors and actresses.
One famous Italian actor in particular, Tino Buazzelli, known for his role as the detective Nero Wolfe, loved to visit Trattoria Omero. When Buazzelli visited Omero and the traditional “fagioli toscanelli al fiasco” (Tuscan beans prepared in a “fiasco” bottle) was on the menu, Buazzelli would claim the entire “fiasco” to himself. It was just the right size of portion for a heavyweight who took up two seats at the table.
